WPL 2024: Shah Rukh Khan to join star-studded opening ceremony in Bengaluru

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan is set to light up the opening ceremony of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 to be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, February 23. The King of Indian cinemas has joined Tiger Shroff, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kartik Aaryan and Sidharth Malhotra amongst the stars to perform in the star-studded ceremony.

Shah Rukh, at the age of 58, keeps ruling the roost in Bollywood and remains one of the top actors in the industry. Last year, the veteran enthralled his fans with blockbusters like Pathaan and Dunki, movies which not only did well in India, but also made heads turn in the overseas market.

Shah Rukh’s relation to cricket dates back to 2008 when he started his journey as the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Thereafter, he played a major role in expanding the Knight Riders’ franchise with teams in the West Indies, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and United States of America (USA).

Mumbai and Delhi to kick off WPL 2024

After the Bollywood actors entertain the capacity crowd in Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Deli Capitals (DC) will lock horns in the opener.

In a rematch of last year’s final, Meg Lanning’s DC will be looking to avenge their defeat against MI, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur.

UP Warriorz, led by Alyssa Healy, went through to the Eliminator last year before losing to the Mumbai team.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Giants (GT) failed to qualify for the playoffs last season and would want to make amends.

On Wednesday, all the 5 captains, Healy, Beth Mooney, Harmanpreet, Smriti Mandhana and Lanning gathered together in Bengaluru for the captain’s meeting.

Apart from Bengaluru, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi will also host matches in the WPL 2024, including the Eliminator on March 15 and Final on March 17.
