Kedar Jadhav takes MS Dhoni’s route to announce retirement from all forms of cricket

All-rounder Kedar Jadhav announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Monday, June 3. The Maharashtra batter took to social media to share a post that was quite similar to MS Dhoni’s retirement note on Instagram. Jadhav, who shares a cordial relationship with Dhoni, also shared a slideshow of photos from his career with a Kishore Kumar song playing in the background.

“Thank you all For your love and support throughout my Career from 1500 hrs. Consider me as retired from all forms of cricket,” Kedar Jadhav said in the post, confirming his retirement at 3 pm IST on Monday.

The announcement was worded exactly like MS Dhoni’s retirement note. Dhoni had shocked his fans on August 15, 2020 by announcing his retirement with a two-line statement on his Instagram profile, a year after he played his last international game for India — at the 2019 World Cup in England.

“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired (sic),” Dhoni had said, sharing a slideshow of photos from his career, accompanied by one of his favourite songs, ‘Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shair Hoon‘ in the background.

Kedar Jadhav made played 73 ODIs and 9 T20is for India between 2014 and 2020. The 39-year-old flourished under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, providing the team with handy off-spin. Jadhav played the 2019 World Cup and was part of the team that reached the semi-final.

KEDAR JADHAV’S CAREER IN NUMBERS

Kedar Jadhav last played a competitive match in February when he turned up for Maharashtra against Vidarbha in a Ranji Trophy game in Pune. Jadhav was in fine form, scoring 379 runs in 5 matches including a hundred and a fifty in Maharashtra’s 2023-24 Ranji Trophy campaign.

Kedar Jadhav scored 1389 runs in 73 ODIs, including 2 hundreds and 6 fifties. He scored 122 runs for India in 9 T20Is.

The off-spinner, who had a low-arm action, picked 27 wickets at an economy rate of 5.15 in ODIs.

Kedar was a consistent performer in domestic cricket. He scored 6100 runs in first-class cricket, hitting 17 hundreds and 23 fifties and 5520 runs in List-A cricket with 10 hundreds. He played 9 ODIs under MS Dhoni’s captaincy after having made his debut under the latter’s leadership.

Kedar Jadhav played 93 IPL matches and scored 1196 runs. He was part of the title-winning Chennai Super Kings team that won the IPL in 2018. Jadhav also played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2010, Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011 and returned to Delhi between 2013 and 2015.

Kedar Jadhav last played for RCB in IPL 2023 — a team that he represented in 2016 and 2017 as well.
